Football Insider recently reported that Nottingham Forest is considering transferring several players, including Joe Worrall, this summer. Additionally, Nixon has mentioned that Coventry City is interested in acquiring the defender on loan during the current transfer window.
However, Coventry City faces competition from another Championship team, Sheffield United. The Blades have shown a keen interest in signing the 27-year-old defender and have been in discussions with Forest for some time, as per a report from TEAMtalk.
Worrall has seen his standing diminish at Nottingham Forest, a Premier League club, and the team aims to secure up to £4 million for his transfer due to increasing interest.
The report also indicates that Worrall himself is inclined towards joining Sheffield United, although this could change now that Coventry City is also pursuing him.
Last summer, Coventry’s manager, Mark Robins, strengthened the team’s defense by bringing in players like Liam Kitching, Joel Latibeaudiere, and Bobby Thomas. This summer, Luis Binks has also made a permanent move to the team.
Coventry fan pundit Neil Littlewood of FLW believes that Worrall’s experience would be advantageous, even though he doesn’t fit the usual recruitment profile of younger, pre-peak players. Littlewood explained:
“Joe Worrall deviates from our standard recruitment strategy, but his experience is valuable as we have a relatively young squad. I wouldn’t object to his inclusion. He has experience at this level, having achieved promotion with Forest and played in the Premier League.
“I think he’d be a beneficial addition to the squad. Robins tends to prefer having four center-backs, and Latibeaudiere’s performance was underwhelming when he was with us. It’s uncertain if Latibeaudiere is now considered as cover for the right-back position. In my opinion, Worrall is a better player, so his addition would be beneficial for the squad.
“Experience is needed in the squad, whether in the goalkeeper position, center-half, or midfield. We’ve lost experienced players like Liam Kelly and Simon Moore, and had Kyle McFadzean last season. This experience is crucial for the team’s core.
“As talented as Bobby Thomas and Ben Sheaf are, they are still relatively young. Therefore, we need to bring in more experienced players.”
