The Boston Celtics are basking in their 2024 NBA Championship victory after a decisive 4-1 series win over the Dallas Mavericks, but they’re already looking ahead to next season.
Celtics star Jaylen Brown spoke about the team’s prospects for the upcoming season, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe:
“I think we have an opportunity. I think we definitely have a window,” Brown said regarding the chances of repeating their success. “We take it one day at a time. We definitely have to make sure we stay healthy. But, you know, we’ll enjoy the summer, enjoy the moment, and then we get right back to it next year.”
If Brown continues to perform as he did in this postseason, their chances look promising. Brown ascended to superstardom, capturing the MVP titles for both the Eastern Conference Finals and the NBA Finals. His standout defense against Mavericks star Luka Doncic was crucial, and he averaged 20.8 points per game in the series against Dallas.
Brown also reflected on winning a championship with teammate Jayson Tatum, who has been alongside him for years, as reported by Washburn:
“Just our growth together. We’ve been through a lot. We’ve been playing together for seven years now. We’ve faced many challenges, the losses, the expectations. The media has doubted us, saying we can’t play together and we will never win. We heard it all. But we blocked it out and kept pushing. I trusted him, he trusted me, and we did it together.”
Brown’s comments suggest a sense of satisfaction in the success of American players, particularly him and Tatum. He expressed pride in the fact that a team led by American players clinched the championship.
Despite these sentiments, the NBA continues to witness the rising influence of international players. Stars like Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Luka Doncic have consistently been at the forefront of MVP races, demonstrating that exceptional talent knows no national boundaries.
