As of Monday, June 24, two Philadelphia Phillies players are dominating the All-Star voting. Bryce Harper leads all National League first basemen with an impressive 2,037,523 votes, while Alec Bohm is at the top for third basemen with 1,960,231 votes. Harper’s lead is significant, and Bohm’s tally places him well ahead of Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres, who has 545,259 votes.
Harper and Bohm have the highest vote counts in the National League. Across all Major League Baseball players, Harper ranks third in votes, trailing only Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. For Harper, a seven-time All-Star, this is a familiar achievement. However, if Bohm secures his spot, it will be his first appearance in an All-Star Game.
Alec Bohm’s performance this year makes it clear why he’s a leading candidate. He’s been exceptional batting cleanup, a crucial role that supports Harper. Bohm had an 18-game hitting streak that began in April and extended into May. He has been particularly effective with runners in scoring position, accumulating 64 RBIs, the third-highest in MLB. Currently, Bohm boasts a .313 batting average and an .873 OPS.
In an interview with Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Bohm expressed his gratitude for the widespread support he’s receiving. “It’s awesome to see the support from not only our fan base but all around the country,” Bohm said. “Just baseball fans in general. It’s pretty cool to see that respect. Those are names of guys that I have looked up to. Being in the same conversation as them is pretty cool. It’s pretty humbling.”
If Bohm makes the All-Star team, he will share the infield with his teammate and mentor, Harper. Both players are key figures in the Phillies’ lineup, with Bohm leading in batting average and hits, and Harper leading in home runs and on-base percentage. Their combined efforts make them standout candidates to represent the Phillies in the All-Star Game.
Bryce Harper has also been excelling, particularly in June. Initially, it seemed like another National League first baseman, Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers, might challenge Harper. However, Harper has surged ahead, now leading Freeman by 709,605 votes as Phase 1 of voting approaches its conclusion on Thursday. Harper’s recent performance has been stellar; over the past week, he recorded nine hits, including four doubles, four home runs, and 10 RBIs, raising his OPS for the year to .977. He is undeniably the best first baseman in the league at the moment, as reflected by his vote count.
The Phillies may have additional representatives in the All-Star Game besides Harper and Bohm. Trea Turner is currently in second place behind Mookie Betts for second base. Outfielders Brandon Marsh and Nick Castellanos hold the fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Catcher J.T. Realmuto is also in second place but is likely to remain on the injured list when the All-Star Game takes place.
The player with the most votes in each league automatically earns a starting spot in the All-Star lineup. Additionally, the top two players at each infield position and the top six outfielders advance to the next phase of voting, which begins on Sunday, June 30.
