Bettor Places Large Wager On Raiders To Win The Super Bowl
This dubious recent history did not deter a well-heeled bettor, however, who apparently sees tremendous upside in the Raiders under new head coach Antonio Pierce.
The team indeed bought into Pierce’s leadership style and went 5-4 down the stretch last year after he replaced Josh McDaniels.
According to Action Network, a gambler laid down $31K at Caesars Sports on the Raiders (+8000) odds to win the Super Bowl in February.
That bet would return a cool $2.48 million if the Silver and Black shock the NFL universe and hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Is this wishful thinking by a gambler who may have too much emotionally invested in the Raiders?
Perhaps, but Pierce may be onto something in Las Vegas, and his players are certainly buying what he is selling.
There is considerable talent on the roster, but the question is if that extends to the quarterback position.
Longtime starter Derek Carr is now gone, and the reins will be handed to either Aidan O’Connell or new addition Gardner Minshew, who signed with the Raiders as a free agent.
Both are certainly capable, but the NFL is a quarterback’s league, and stellar play is usually required from that position to go far in the playoffs.
See division foe Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes.
But there is definitely talent to work with, and if Las Vegas can substantially improve on last year’s eight-win total and reach the postseason, who knows?
