Hürzeler Praises Guardiola’s Dominance as City’s Financial Case Takes Centre Stage
Fabian Hürzeler has praised Pep Guardiola’s extraordinary Premier League dominance while acknowledging the controversy surrounding Manchester City’s financial affairs.
“Whatever happens around the financial discussions, you cannot ignore what Pep has achieved on the pitch,” Hürzeler said. “His teams have set extraordinary standards in possession, intensity, tactical flexibility and consistency. That level of dominance requires tremendous work.”
However, Manchester City’s achievements are now being discussed alongside a major financial ruling. On September 29, 2026, an independent Premier League Commission found City guilty of serious financial-rule breaches covering nine seasons, including findings that the club significantly breached both Premier League and UEFA spending limits. The Commission said the arrangements artificially inflated revenues and reduced costs by more than £900 million.
The club has appealed the Commission’s decision, with the appeal process now underway.
For Hürzeler, Guardiola’s footballing legacy and the financial controversy remain separate questions.
