Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially been relegated from the Premier League, with confirmation arriving late on Monday. As a result, the club is now expected to face significant pressure in the upcoming summer transfer window, as other teams begin targeting their players in hopes of strengthening their own squads.
One of the players who could be on his way out of Molineux is Jackson Tchatchoua. The right-back only joined Wolves in 2025 from Hellas Verona after an impressive spell in Serie A during the 2024/25 season. His strong performances in Italy had already attracted attention from several top Italian clubs before Wolves secured his services for a reported fee of €12.5 million. At the time, that transfer was widely considered a smart and cost-effective move, especially given that Everton were also interested in signing him.
However, circumstances have changed. Following relegation, Wolves may now be forced to sell players, and Tchatchoua could depart for less than what they originally paid. Reports suggest that multiple clubs are already monitoring his situation closely. According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Wolves’ drop from the top flight has opened the door for teams in Italy to attempt to bring the defender back to Serie A.
Interest in Tchatchoua is not new. During the January transfer window, several clubs were already considering a move for him. Bologna, in particular, showed strong interest but ultimately opted to sign João Mário from Juventus instead. At that time, Wolves were reportedly asking for around €10 million for Tchatchoua, but given their current situation, it is now believed they may accept an even lower fee to facilitate a sale.
Despite his time in England, Tchatchoua still maintains a solid reputation in Italy, where he previously proved his quality. That reputation could play a crucial role as the transfer window approaches and clubs evaluate potential signings.
From a career perspective, Tchatchoua may not be eager to compete in the Championship, especially considering how much his profile improved during his stint at Verona. Although Verona struggled during the 2024/25 season and were involved in a relegation battle, Tchatchoua played an important role in helping them avoid the drop.
Even so, it would be wise for the 24-year-old to carefully consider his next move rather than rushing into a decision. He is approaching what many consider the peak years of a footballer’s career, and while his time at Wolves hasn’t been exceptional, it has certainly not been poor either. His next club could have a major influence on the trajectory of his career.
A team like Bologna could be a particularly good fit. They are regarded as one of the more stable sides in Serie A and have managed to qualify for European competitions in consecutive seasons, making them an attractive destination for a player looking to compete at a higher level.
As for Wolves, the club will likely aim to use the growing interest in Tchatchoua to their advantage. Their priority will be to secure the best possible transfer fee rather than allowing him to leave on loan, ensuring they recoup as much value as possible from the deal.
