Brandon Aubrey, who signed with the Dallas Cowboys in July 2023 after stints in MLS and the USFL, has quickly emerged as one of the NFL’s top kickers, though few expected such a meteoric rise. Initially a software engineer, Aubrey has become an indispensable part of the Cowboys’ special teams, continuing an impressive start to his NFL career that began in 2023.
In his debut season, Aubrey led the league in field goals made with 36, earning two NFC Special Teams Player of the Week and Month awards. His field goal accuracy was equally notable, with a 94.73% success rate, which ranked third in the NFL. His performance on long-range kicks was even more impressive, making all 10 attempts from 50 yards or more. His strong debut earned him Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors, a rare achievement for a rookie.
As the 2024 season unfolds, Aubrey is on track to surpass his previous performance. Heading into Week 5, he leads the NFL with 12 field goals, putting him on pace to exceed the 36 he made last year. In addition, he has improved his accuracy on extra points, after missing three of 52 attempts in 2023. He has made all seven of his extra-point attempts in 2024, further showcasing his reliability. Aubrey also extended his career-long field goal to 65 yards, just one yard shy of the NFL record, demonstrating his ability to deliver in critical moments.
Aubrey’s contributions give the Cowboys a significant edge on offense. With his long-range kicking ability, the Cowboys only need to get to midfield to be in scoring range.
