Alongside Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson, Newsome was part of a cornerback trio that proclaimed themselves as the best in the NFL last season. This confidence is critical for the Browns’ defense, which under defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, emphasizes aggressive, man-to-man, press coverage. For such a defense to succeed, having a deep and talented cornerback group is essential, and Newsome’s return to the practice field is a significant boost for the team.

Following his return to practice, Newsome spoke about the importance of maintaining the high level of play the cornerback group demonstrated during the 2023 regular season. He emphasized the need for consistent effort and improvement, starting from the first game of the season. Newsome expressed his belief in the players on the team, noting that they are more experienced and wiser after their first playoff appearance, where they may have been overwhelmed by the moment. With that experience under their belt, Newsome believes the Browns will be better prepared for the next playoff opportunity.

Despite a rough playoff game against the Texans last season, Newsome had a strong offseason, finishing with a solid performance in minicamp. However, he faced a setback when he injured his hamstring before training camp, an injury severe enough to require surgery. Despite this, Newsome remains optimistic and determined to contribute to the Browns’ defense at a high level in the upcoming season. His return to practice is a positive sign for the Browns as they prepare for the new season, aiming to build on their previous success and make a deeper playoff run.

wants the defense, specifically, the cornerback group to play at the high level they did in the regular season in 2023.g every single day,” Newsome said after his first practice back. “We say we’re the best in the world, so we have to continue to prove that and I think we will do that again. But it starts every single day. It starts Game One and it starts tomorrow. So now that we got our guys out there, we’re just looking to grow with each other.

Newsome said the Browns have the right players on the team.
