Rangers Football Club captain James Tavernier recently made a surprising revelation regarding the team’s decision to discontinue their annual Secret Santa tradition. The festive practice was halted after former player Ryan Kent gifted a live snake to a teammate, an incident that led to the tradition being deemed too extreme.
In a candid discussion on the club’s Instagram page, Tavernier explained, “The Secret Santa ended up being scrapped. Especially after the year when Ryan Kent brought in a snake for one of the lads! The gifts were going a bit too extreme.”
The unexpected nature of Kent’s gift caused audible reactions from those present, highlighting the shock among the team. Kent’s affinity for exotic animals is well-documented; after his transfer to Fenerbahce in May 2023, he reportedly sought assistance in caring for his pet crocodile.
This incident underscores the challenges teams may face in maintaining lighthearted traditions, especially when individual interpretations push boundaries. While such activities aim to foster camaraderie, they can sometimes lead to unintended consequences, prompting reevaluation of their place within team culture.
