Following the Sky’s 93-85 victory over the Las Vegas Aces on July 16, Weatherspoon praised Cardoso’s presence on the court. She emphasized how Cardoso excels in rebounding, defending, and initiating transitions. Weatherspoon noted Cardoso’s confidence and resilience, stating that she never shows disappointment and consistently plays hard. With each game, Cardoso gains more experience, which benefits both her and the team.
In the first 18 games of the season, Cardoso averages 8.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. At 6-foot-7, her defensive presence is formidable, deterring guards from driving into the paint. Her ability to make crucial blocks is noteworthy, and her timing is expected to improve with more experience.
The Chicago Sky hopes Cardoso will develop into one of the top two-way interior players in the WNBA, similar to her role with the South Carolina team. However, Weatherspoon has identified areas for improvement, particularly on offense. Before the Sky’s 71-84 loss to the Seattle Storm on July 7, Weatherspoon pointed out that Cardoso needs to focus on finishing her shots, getting into the right positions, and using her strength and power under the basket.
