At the Wimbledon final on Sunday, Darcey, Kate Garraway’s eldest daughter, paid a heartfelt tribute to her late father, Derek Draper. Attending the match featuring Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic alongside her mother, the *Good Morning Britain* star, Darcey honored Derek, who passed away in January.
The 18-year-old was spotted wearing one of Derek’s distinctive white Panama hats with a black trim, according to the *Mirror*. Kate shared photos on Instagram of herself and Darcey at the event, prompting followers to notice the touching tribute. One user commented, “Derek’s hat????” Kate confirmed, “Yes it is Derek’s hat – good spot! She wears it well, doesn’t she.”
Earlier in the year, Darcey demonstrated remarkable courage by serving as a pallbearer at her father’s funeral, helping to carry the casket into the church where her parents had exchanged vows nearly two decades earlier. Reflecting on her daughter’s “beautiful” gesture, Kate shared with her colleague Susanna Reid on *Good Morning Britain*, “That was her idea. That was her, I was talking with my mum and dad, I was really conscious that the funeral should be about Derek and not about ill health.”
Darcey’s request to carry the coffin came as a surprise. Kate recounted, “Darcey came into the room when we were talking about it and said, ‘Please will you let me carry the coffin?’ and I thought, ‘Crikey, that’s a practical challenge,’ because anybody who’s ever done it knows it’s a heavy thing. She said, ‘I want to do it’ and basically insisted on doing it, and I thought that was a beautiful thing.”
Darcey’s tribute at Wimbledon and her role at the funeral highlight the profound bond she shared with her father and her strength in honoring his memory.
