As free agency progresses, rumors are intensifying that Miles Bridges is actively seeking a sign-and-trade opportunity to join another team. Initially, reports linked him to the LA Clippers, but now, according to veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as a potential destination.
“It is not yet clear how serious the interest is, but league sources describe Cleveland as a team to watch in a potential sign-and-trade scenario for Miles Bridges. New Hornets executive vice president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson has publicly stated that Charlotte hopes to retain Bridges, but Bridges is known to be interested in sign-and-trade options.”
This isn’t the first time the Cavaliers have been associated with Bridges. Cleveland reportedly showed interest in him last offseason when he was a restricted free agent.
This latest report comes just days after a source informed the Charlotte Observer’s Rod Boone, “I think they end up signing and trading.” This only adds to the growing momentum of a Bridges exit, which now seems more imminent than ever.
### Cavaliers Trade Partner Analysis
Any sign-and-trade deal with the Cavaliers would likely involve a double sign-and-trade, including Cleveland’s restricted free agent Isaac Okoro, who has yet to finalize a new contract. Okoro’s fit on Charlotte’s roster appears less ideal following the Josh Green trade, as both players share the same role and position. However, given Charlotte’s struggle for perimeter defense and toughness, the team might consider it beneficial to have multiple defensive-oriented wings.
Another potential target for Charlotte is Max Strus, a 3-point shooter who moves well off the ball. Strus recently signed with Cleveland but had a challenging time in this year’s playoffs. The Hornets might also be interested in Cleveland’s remaining future draft picks, which include some weaker second-round picks and first-round picks from 2030 and beyond.
Lastly, there’s the possibility of Bridges being part of a larger multi-team trade. During the offseason, complex trades involving four or five teams are more feasible due to greater time and cap flexibility. Several notable players in the NBA trade market, such as DeMar DeRozan, Lauri Markkanen, and Brandon Ingram, could potentially be involved in a bigger deal that includes Bridges.
