The Boston Red Sox have received acclaim for the progress of their “Big Three” players in Double-A Portland, but that title might not capture the whole picture. In reality, the Sea Dogs boast a “Big Four.”
Kristian Campbell, who was promoted just last month, has emerged as one of the top players in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) this season. Over the course of 66 games with High-A Greenville and Portland, he has achieved an impressive batting line of .346/.452/.589, along with 12 home runs, 21 doubles, and 43 RBIs.
In an interview with The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier on NESN’s “310 To Left” podcast on Friday, Campbell discussed his swift progression through the system, the challenges inherent in professional baseball, and his aspirations moving forward.
“I had no idea what was going to happen once I got drafted,” Campbell said. “I’m just really excited with where I’m at right now… It’s definitely been a lot about learning, a lot of changes, even though it has mainly been positive. I’ve definitely been working on a lot of stuff, a lot of trial and error.”
On Wednesday, Campbell made his debut on Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects list, ranked as the No. 89 prospect in MLB. Given the remaining time he has to develop within the system, he could climb even higher in the rankings.
