As the Sydney Roosters prepare for the 2025 NRL season, they have been actively making key moves both on and off the field to strengthen their squad and uphold their values.

The club has secured the long-term future of rising forward Egan Butcher by extending his contract through to the end of the 2027 season. Since making his debut in 2021, Butcher has played 56 games for the Roosters. Expressing his excitement about the contract extension, he stated, “I’ve been with the Roosters since I was a teenager, and I love everything about the club, so I’m really happy to commit my future here.”

Looking ahead, the Roosters have also bolstered their roster by signing representative dummy-half Reece Robson from the North Queensland Cowboys on a four-year contract beginning in 2026. Despite receiving a strong offer to remain with the Cowboys, Robson opted to join the Roosters, where he is expected to assume the dummy-half role, possibly replacing Brandon Smith. Cowboys general manager Micheal Luck acknowledged Robson’s contributions and respected his decision while emphasizing his importance to the team for the upcoming 2025 season.

On the leadership front, club chairman Nick Politis has reinforced a firm stance on discipline, particularly regarding drug use. Working alongside coach Trent Robinson, Politis has implemented a zero-tolerance policy on cocaine, declaring that any player caught using the substance will face immediate termination. This strict approach contrasts with the NRL’s current two-strike policy, which allows players to undergo counseling and rehabilitation after a first offense. The decision has sparked debate within the rugby league community, with some supporting the Roosters’ strong stance while others argue that the existing policy effectively balances player welfare and discipline.

Meanwhile, Brandon Smith, who is currently recovering from an ACL injury, has addressed speculation linking him to a potential move to the Cowboys. Despite rumors of a swap deal involving Reece Robson, Smith reaffirmed his commitment to the Roosters, dismissing any intentions of leaving. He emphasized his focus on recovery and his dedication to helping the team compete for the 2025 premiership.

Beyond the game, the Roosters remain actively engaged with their community through various outreach initiatives and events. Their official website provides updates on these programs, offering fans opportunities to connect with the team.

As the 2025 season approaches, the Sydney Roosters are determined to build a cohesive, disciplined, and competitive team. With strategic player acquisitions, strong leadership, and a commitment to community involvement, the club aims to uphold its proud legacy and strive for success in the upcoming campaign.
