Coby Black, a promising young talent for the Brisbane Broncos, has secured his future with the club by signing a new two-year contract, extending his stay until the end of the 2026 NRL season. Black, who has been identified as a potential successor to Adam Reynolds as the team’s halfback, is highly regarded within rugby league circles.
Discovered by the Broncos at just 12 years old, Black has benefited from the guidance of several mentors, including Issac Luke, Darren Nicholls, Nathan Cleary, and Sean O’Sullivan, who have all played a role in his development as a player. Although he has yet to make his debut in the NRL’s first-grade competition, Black has been making waves in the Queensland Cup, playing for the Souths Logan Magpies. Earlier this year, he drew significant attention when he scored an impressive 46 points in a single match during the Mal Meninga Cup.
Initially on a development contract that was set to expire at the end of this season, Black’s new contract marks a significant step in his career, though it remains unclear whether this deal will elevate him to the Broncos’ Top 30 roster. The club has not yet commented on this aspect, and an update is anticipated.
Unfortunately, despite the excitement surrounding his new contract, Black is currently sidelined due to a broken thumb, for which he has undergone surgery. Nevertheless, his future with the Broncos appears secure as he prepares to take on a larger role with the team in the coming years.
