In the current landscape of the US women’s professional basketball league, there are 42 openly LGBTQ+ players. This organization has been an advocate for bodily autonomy, recently solidifying this stance through a partnership related to birth control.
Recently, speculation about player Kate Martin’s relationship status has arisen following a suggestive Instagram story she posted. Martin, a rookie for the Las Vegas Aces, set the rumor mill spinning over the weekend with a post featuring herself and another blonde woman, accompanied by the caption, “switched coasts for the weekend.”
A fan on TikTok amplified the buzz by sharing the same image of Martin and the woman identified as Claire Gransee, a former University of Iowa student. The TikTok user expressed a mix of admiration and disappointment, remarking on Gransee’s attractiveness and hinting that Martin might no longer be single. She wrote, “I can’t even be upset if that’s Kate Martin’s girlfriend because she is LITERALLY GORGEOUS STUNNING PERFECT.”
Martin responded to the TikTok post, acknowledging Gransee’s beauty with the comment, “She is gorgeous, stunning & perfect, I can’t lie.” While Martin’s comment fueled further speculation, she neither confirmed nor denied a romantic relationship with Gransee.
Gransee appears to reside in Boston, on the East Coast, whereas Martin is based on the West Coast. An Iowa Hawkeyes fan, a team for which Martin played during her college years, also reportedly commented on the video, thanking the original poster for sharing it.
In the recent WNBA draft, Martin was selected in the second round by the Las Vegas Aces. Her college career was notable; she led the University of Iowa to its first national championship game in 2023 and played a crucial role in their return to the competition in 2024.
