Celtic FC’s manager, Martin O’Neill, has reportedly rejected a £15 million approach from a Premier League club, choosing to stay at Parkhead and continue the work he began earlier this season.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the Premier League club — understood to be a side looking to improve its league position — lodged a formal approach to speak with O’Neill about their vacant managerial role. The offer reportedly included a significant compensation package for Celtic and a lucrative contract for O’Neill.
Despite the financial appeal and the chance to return to English football, O’Neill is said to have turned down the opportunity, telling Celtic’s board that he is fully committed to the club’s long-term goals.
O’Neill was appointed earlier in the 2025–26 season in a bid to bring stability and experience to the team, and has since been focused on keeping Celtic competitive in the Scottish Premiership and in European competitions. Under his guidance, the club have tightened defensively and shown renewed belief in key matches.
A Celtic insider described O’Neill’s decision as “a huge vote of confidence in the club’s project,” adding that his leadership has had a positive effect on both players and staff.
Celtic currently sit in a strong position in the Scottish Premiership title race, and the board are understood to be pleased that their manager has reaffirmed his commitment to the club. Supporters have responded positively on social media, with many praising O’Neill’s loyalty and leadership.
While interest from other clubs is expected to continue given O’Neill’s reputation and experience, Celtic now plan to focus fully on securing silverware this season and strengthening the squad ahead of the summer transfer window.
