Portsmouth chief Rich Hughes has responded to the departure of Luke Le Roux after the midfielder’s contract was terminated just 13 months into a three-year agreement.

Le Roux arrived with expectations of becoming an important part of Portsmouth’s midfield, but his time at the club ultimately ended earlier than anticipated. The decision to mutually end the agreement marks a significant change for both the player and the club.

Hughes acknowledged that terminating a long-term contract is never an easy decision, but stressed that both parties believed it was the right outcome.

“Luke has been professional throughout his time with us, and we thank him for his efforts,” Hughes said. “Sometimes circumstances change, and after discussions with Luke and those around him, we felt this was the best decision for everyone involved.”

Portsmouth will now turn its attention to strengthening the squad, while Le Roux looks ahead to the next chapter of his career.
