Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of highly rated Spanish midfielder Chema Andrés from VfB Stuttgart, giving Fabian Hürzeler another exciting option in the heart of his squad.
The 21-year-old joined the Seagulls on a five-year contract on deadline day in a deal reported by the BBC to be worth £15.5 million. Brighton officially confirmed the transfer but did not disclose the fee.
Andrés arrives at the Amex after an impressive first season in Germany. Having moved to Stuttgart from Real Madrid in 2025, the Spain Under-21 international made 41 appearances for the German club last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists. He also played a part in Stuttgart’s qualification for the Champions League.
His development has naturally attracted attention. German football expert Keven Bader described Andrés as a technically gifted midfielder with strong physical qualities, while highlighting his ability to read the game, remain composed under pressure and progress the ball with his passing.
Brighton sporting director Mike Cave also pointed to the midfielder’s Real Madrid background and successful season with Stuttgart as reasons for the club’s excitement over the deal.
For Hürzeler, Andrés provides another option in midfield and a player with considerable room to develop. Whether he becomes the next standout name to emerge at Brighton remains to be seen, but the Seagulls clearly believe they have secured a player with significant potential.
