Brighton fans are expecting much more after sensational September
Brighton & Hove Albion have given their supporters plenty to smile about during the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign.
But after such an impressive September, expectations around the Amex are beginning to change.
The Seagulls currently sit third in the Premier League after five matches, having scored 16 goals and conceded just five. Their latest league performance was particularly eye-catching, with Fabian Hürzeler’s side producing a convincing 3-0 victory over Arsenal.
Hürzeler’s work has also received individual recognition, with the Brighton head coach named September’s Premier League Manager of the Month after guiding his team to two wins and a draw during the month.
So, what exactly will Brighton fans now be expecting?
European football can no longer feel like a distant dream
Brighton’s supporters will understandably be looking at the league table and wondering just how far this team can go.
Nobody will want to get carried away after only five matches, but the early numbers are difficult to ignore.
The Seagulls are currently averaging 3.2 goals per Premier League game and have already demonstrated that they can compete against some of the division’s biggest names.
The challenge now is consistency.
Brighton have previously shown that they can produce spectacular performances, but supporters will want to see those performances become the standard rather than the exception.
Fans will want the attacking football to continue
One of the biggest reasons for the optimism is Brighton’s attacking output.
The club currently leads the Premier League in several possession and attacking metrics, including possession, shots on target per match and big chances created.
That style has quickly become one of the biggest attractions of the Hürzeler era.
For Brighton fans, the expectation will therefore be simple: don’t abandon what is working.
The Seagulls have scored four against Aston Villa, five against Coventry City and three against Arsenal in the league, demonstrating the different ways they can hurt opponents.
The injury situation will be another major concern
The next challenge could be maintaining momentum while dealing with injuries.
Recent Premier League injury information lists Kaoru Mitoma, Yankuba Minteh, Jack Hinshelwood and Lewis Dunk among Brighton players with potential return dates around the Sunderland fixture, while Stefanos Tzimas has an uncertain return.
That means squad depth could become increasingly important.
Brighton are competing in the Premier League, Carabao Cup and UEFA Conference League, meaning Hürzeler will need contributions from across his squad.
Supporters will be hoping the club’s recruitment and development model can once again provide enough quality when injuries and rotation inevitably become an issue.
The next few weeks could tell us a lot
Brighton’s upcoming schedule gives supporters plenty to look forward to.
The Seagulls travel to Sunderland on October 10 before hosting Crystal Palace on October 18. They then face Liverpool at Anfield on October 25 before travelling to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup four days later.
That is a serious test.
By the end of that sequence, Brighton supporters may have a much clearer idea of whether this is simply an excellent start or the beginning of something considerably bigger.
Hürzeler has already raised the bar
Perhaps the biggest expectation of all now surrounds Hürzeler himself.
The German head coach signed a new contract with Brighton until 2029 earlier this year, with the club making it clear that it sees him as central to its long-term vision.
His latest Manager of the Month award only strengthens the feeling that Brighton have found a coach capable of taking the club forward.
The supporters won’t expect perfection.
But after watching their team dismantle Arsenal, score freely and climb into the Premier League’s top three, they will certainly expect ambition.
Brighton have spent years building towards becoming a club capable of challenging established Premier League sides.
Now, the question supporters will be asking is whether this is finally the season when the Seagulls turn potential into something tangible.
And with Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Manchester City waiting in the coming weeks, Brighton fans won’t have to wait long for another answer.
