Newcastle See £50m Bid for Jørgen Strand Larsen Rejected by Wolves

Newcastle United have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Jørgen Strand Larsen after Wolverhampton Wanderers rejected a £50 million offer for the Norwegian striker. The Magpies, keen to bolster their attacking options before the transfer window closes, had identified the 24-year-old as a key target, but Wolves remain reluctant to sell.

Eddie Howe’s side are desperate to add more firepower following injuries and inconsistency in their forward line last season. While Alexander Isak has impressed with his scoring form, concerns over Callum Wilson’s fitness have left Newcastle looking for a reliable partner or alternative option. Strand Larsen, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Premier League last year, had been viewed as an ideal solution.

Wolves, however, see the Norwegian as central to their own ambitions. Since arriving from Celta Vigo, Strand Larsen has adapted quickly to English football, combining strength, aerial presence, and a clinical eye for goal. His contribution was vital in keeping Wolves clear of the relegation fight, and the Midlands club believe he has the potential to become one of the league’s top strikers.

Sources close to Molineux suggest that Wolves are unwilling to entertain bids below £70 million, reflecting both the striker’s value to their system and the club’s determination not to lose a key player so late in the window. Newcastle’s £50 million approach, while significant, was therefore swiftly rebuffed.

The rejection leaves Newcastle with a decision to make in the final week of the market: whether to return with an improved offer or to switch focus elsewhere. Howe and sporting director Dan Ashworth are reportedly weighing alternative targets, but the admiration for Strand Larsen remains strong.

For Wolves, fending off interest from a top-six rival underlines their desire to build stability and resist being viewed as a selling club. The situation could develop further if Newcastle return with a substantially higher proposal, but for now, the message from Wolves is clear: Strand Larsen is not for sale.

As the transfer deadline approaches, all eyes will be on whether Newcastle are willing to push beyond their current valuation in order to land the striker they believe could transform their season.
