Birmingham City have officially confirmed the signing of Spanish winger Carlos Vicente from La Liga side Deportivo Alavés, marking the club’s fifth addition of the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old becomes the latest new face at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, following the arrivals of Kai Wagner, Jhon Solis, Ibrahim Osman and August Priske, as Blues continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the second half of the season.

Vicente has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029, underlining Birmingham’s long-term faith in the wide attacker.

The Spaniard arrives on the back of an impressive spell in Spain, having enjoyed a productive half-season with Alavés. During that time, he scored 10 goals in all competitions, including five strikes in La Liga, and also registered 10 goal contributions overall as he helped the Basque outfit secure a 15th-place finish in the top flight last season.

Birmingham have moved to bring in Vicente to add pace, directness and attacking threat on the right flank, particularly following the departures of Keshi Anderson and Lewis Koumas. He is expected to provide strong competition for Patrick Roberts as Blues look to improve their attacking options.

The transfer fee is reported to be in the region of £7 million, excluding add-ons, making Vicente one of the most expensive signings in Birmingham City’s history.

Vicente could be thrown straight into action, with the winger potentially in line to make his debut this weekend when Blues travel to face Oxford United in the Championship at the Kassam Stadium.

With this latest signing, Birmingham City continue to signal their ambition during the January window as they look to build momentum for the remainder of the campaign.
