There was a notable trade in Major League Baseball on Thursday, with the Cincinnati Reds sending outfielder Rece Hinds to the Miami Marlins, according to MLB.com’s transaction tracker. Hinds was immediately optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville after the move.
MLBTradeRumors.com’s Darragh McDonald reported that the Reds received right-handed pitcher Zach McCambley in exchange. The report also noted that Miami would need to clear a spot on its 40-man roster to finalize the transaction, while infielder Graham Pauley was set to be recalled.
Hinds, who was selected by Cincinnati in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft, has found it difficult to establish himself in the majors. He debuted in 2024 and appeared in 24 games that season, which remains the highest number of MLB appearances in a single year for him so far.
Across his big-league career, the 24-year-old owns a .172 batting average with seven home runs, 19 RBIs, and a .648 OPS over 122 at-bats. Since he has already been sent to Triple-A by Miami, Hinds will likely need to impress in the minors before earning another opportunity in the majors.
This season, Hinds has struggled offensively, batting just .121 with four hits in 33 at-bats and posting an OPS+ of 4.
