Portsmouth chief executive Andy Cullen has stressed that the club are under no pressure to sell players and will only agree to transfers that benefit Pompey. His comments come amid growing speculation surrounding Adrian Segecic after the young attacker attracted interest from Premier League sides, Championship rivals, and clubs overseas following an outstanding 2025/26 campaign.
The 21-year-old, who represents Croatia internationally despite being born in Australia, enjoyed a breakthrough season at Portsmouth F.C., scoring 10 goals and registering six assists. He ended the season in remarkable form with eight goal contributions in his final six matches and earned the Championship Player of the Month award for April.
Cullen explained that Portsmouth’s approach is to sell only when the offer is right for the club and when suitable reinforcements can also be brought in. He referenced previous transfer interest in players such as Callum Lang and Terry Devlin, insisting the club rejected bids that did not match their valuation.
He added that Portsmouth’s strategy focuses on signing talented young players capable of contributing immediately while also increasing in value through regular first-team football. Cullen believes the club now possesses its strongest collection of valuable assets since his arrival and acknowledged that transfer speculation is inevitable as players continue to develop.
Meanwhile, former Portsmouth midfielder and Croatia legend Niko Kranjčar backed Segecic to reach the highest level of the game. The current Croatia Under-21 coach praised the winger’s speed, agility, and direct style, describing him as a unique profile within Croatian football.
Kranjčar said Segecic has all the qualities needed to develop into an elite player but stressed that his future success depends on his own progression and commitment. He also revealed that the youngster has integrated well within the Croatian setup and has impressed coaches and teammates alike.
Although Segecic still faces strong competition to make Croatia’s 2026 World Cup squad, Kranjčar suggested the forward has the potential to become an important player for the national team in the future.
