Portsmouth F.C. sporting director Rich Hughes has revealed that discussions over new contracts for Connor Ogilvie and Zak Swanson are nearing a conclusion, with the club still optimistic about keeping both players at Fratton Park.
The duo are among several players whose contracts were due to expire this month. While Jordan Archer, Reuben Swann and Harry Clout are set to depart, and Andre Dozzell turned down a new offer, club captain Marlon Pack has already agreed a fresh one-year deal.
Pompey confirmed nearly three weeks ago that both Ogilvie and Swanson had received contract offers, but negotiations have continued since then. Ogilvie has been with the club since 2021 and is currently the longest-serving player in John Mousinho’s squad, while Swanson joined from Arsenal F.C. in 2022.
Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Hughes said talks were moving in a positive direction. He stressed that the club has consistently made it clear they want both players to stay, despite expected interest from other clubs due to their free-agent status.
Hughes added that Pompey remain hopeful agreements can be reached, saying the offers made reflect the club’s desire to keep both players as part of the squad moving forward.
