Ato Ampah is edging closer to finally getting his Stoke City career underway after making encouraging progress in his recovery from injury.
The 20-year-old winger arrived from Chelsea on transfer deadline day in January while still sidelined with a toe problem. At the time, there was optimism that he would soon return to training and potentially feature in Mark Robins’ plans for the remainder of the season.
However, his rehabilitation took longer than expected, leaving the England youth international unable to join his new teammates as he continued his recovery.
Ahead of the start of pre-season training at Clayton Wood, Ampah has now shared a positive update on social media. Posting a short video of himself completing running exercises, he wrote: “First day back on the grass after five months out. I can only thank my Lord and personal saviour Jesus Christ.”
The update will come as welcome news for both Robins and Stoke supporters, who are eager to see what the pacey and attack-minded winger can offer once fully fit.
Speaking shortly after his move in February, Ampah expressed his excitement about joining the Potters, describing Stoke as a club with significant ambition. He highlighted the coaching staff’s reputation for developing young talent as a major factor behind his decision and stated his desire to entertain fans with goals, assists and direct attacking play.
Ampah also described himself as a player who relishes taking on defenders and creating excitement in the final third, qualities Stoke will hope to see on display when he returns to competitive action.
