Southampton secured a place in the Championship play-off final after an impressive campaign, but were later removed from the competition after being found to have violated the EFL’s regulations on spying on opposing teams.
Managed by Tonda Eckert, the Saints enjoyed a remarkable 19-match unbeaten streak to finish fourth in the Championship standings before defeating Middlesbrough in the play-off semi-finals.
However, they were denied the opportunity to face Hull City in the final and are now turning their attention to another bid for promotion next season.
The club has already strengthened its squad by making the permanent signings of Cyle Larin and Daniel Peretz, while also bringing in free-agent goalkeeper George Long.
Southampton have now added another attacking option, with Lewis Dobbin joining from Aston Villa in a deal worth up to £10 million.
