After scoring the winning goal in RB Leipzig’s first pre-season match of the summer, Brajan Gruda shared his thoughts on extending his stay with the Bundesliga club. The Brighton winger, who first joined Leipzig on a six-month loan in January 2025, is back for another spell after impressing during his initial stint.
Gruda made a strong impact last season, registering three goals and three assists in just 11 Bundesliga appearances. His performances convinced Leipzig to negotiate a renewed loan agreement with Brighton, with all parties happy to continue the partnership.
Should the 22-year-old maintain his excellent form throughout the 2026/27 campaign, Leipzig are expected to consider making the move permanent. Brighton also stand to benefit through performance-related bonuses included in the loan agreement.
Beyond his attacking output, Gruda is viewed as a key figure in Leipzig’s plans, particularly with Yan Diomande and Antonio Nusa both attracting interest and potentially leaving the club this summer. His versatility and creativity provide valuable depth in the attacking department.
The new loan deal reportedly cost Leipzig just €1 million, making it a relatively inexpensive move for a player expected to play an important role.
Head coach Martin Demichelis praised Gruda’s qualities after Leipzig’s 2-1 pre-season victory over VSG Altglienicke, highlighting his ability to retain possession and bring composure in attack.
“I really like players like him,” Demichelis said. “You need players with his qualities to keep control of the ball.”
Gruda also expressed his delight at remaining with Leipzig, revealing that returning to the club was always his priority.
“I wanted to stay in Leipzig as quickly as possible,” he said. “I even kept my apartment because I knew I wanted to come back.”
