Former Bradford City favourite Jamie Walker has admitted that leaving Valley Parade at the end of the 2024–25 season was “the biggest mistake” of his career in a candid, fictionalised interview published today. Walker — who became a fan favourite during a three-year spell with the Bantams — said he now regrets moving on and would welcome the chance to return to West Yorkshire.
Walker joined Bradford initially on loan from Heart of Midlothian in January 2022, signed permanently ahead of the 2022–23 season and went on to make around 125 appearances for the club before being released when his contract expired in May 2025.
The 32-year-old signed for Grimsby Town on a two-year deal on 25 June 2025 but, speaking in this fictional interview, said the move has not matched his happiest memories at Valley Parade. “I thought moving on would push me forward, but I lost something I never expected to miss — the supporters, the atmosphere and the way I felt walking out in claret and amber,” Walker said in the piece (fictionalised quote).
Reaction among Bantams supporters was swift and largely sympathetic, with a number of fans calling on the club’s hierarchy to explore the possibility of a reunion. Local coverage since Walker’s departure has repeatedly described him as a respected and well-liked figure at the club who contributed consistently during his spell in Bradford.
Bradford City have not made any official approach about re-signing Walker and club spokespeople reminded supporters that any transfer would need to make sense for the squad and the club’s budget. Grimsby Town’s announcement confirming Walker’s move to Blundell Park in June 2025 stands as the most recent factual update to the player’s situation.
