In a startling press conference held this morning, Huntsville city officials, alongside representatives from the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security, confirmed the detection of multiple cases of smallpox in two neighboring towns on the city’s outskirts — the first such occurrence in the United States in over 40 years.
The discovery has triggered an immediate federal investigation and the activation of emergency health protocols in the affected regions. Officials are urging calm but have acknowledged the seriousness of the situation.

All infected individuals are currently in isolation under intensive medical supervision. It is still unclear how the virus—eradicated globally in 1980—resurfaced.
Local hospitals have been placed on high alert, and emergency vaccine supplies have been flown in under tight security. State and federal authorities have not ruled out bioterrorism as a possible cause.
