Coventry City FC have officially announced the departure of eight players following the conclusion of the 2024–25 season. The announcement came shortly after the club’s heartbreaking extra-time defeat to Sunderland in the Championship play-off semi-final—a match that ended Coventry’s hopes of returning to the Premier League.
Among the senior players released are Jamie Paterson, Jack Burroughs, Ryan Howley, and goalkeeper Cian Tyler. In addition to these first-team names, Coventry have also parted ways with four under-21 players: Aston Ellard, Daniel Rachel, Kain Ryan, and Jayden Smith. The decision comes as part of the club’s post-season restructuring under manager Frank Lampard.
While some of the departing players are now free agents, others have already secured moves. Ryan Howley has joined Bristol Rovers, Jack Burroughs signed with Northampton Town, and striker Fábio Tavares has moved on to Burton Albion. Young midfielder Luis Lines also departed, signing for Norwich City.
Coventry also confirmed one-year contract extensions for two squad members: Jamie Allen and goalkeeper Luke Bell. These renewals reflect the club’s intention to retain experienced depth while refreshing the overall squad ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
Despite misleading reports suggesting the club announced the departure of only six players, the confirmed number stands at eight. The reshuffle reflects Lampard’s intent to build a more competitive squad following their close but ultimately unsuccessful promotion push.
