Deal Accepted! Dylan Brown Set to Join Newcastle Knights on Record-Breaking $13 Million Deal
In a groundbreaking move that has sent shockwaves through the NRL, Parramatta Eels’ star five-eighth Dylan Brown has agreed to a 10-year, $13 million contract with the Newcastle Knights, marking the richest deal in the league’s history.
At 24, Brown has been a cornerstone for the Eels since his debut in 2019, amassing 124 appearances and playing a pivotal role in their 2022 Grand Final run. His combination with halfback Mitchell Moses was instrumental in the team’s consistent finals appearances from 2019 to 2022.
Despite signing a multi-year extension with Parramatta in December 2022, which included an option to remain until 2031, Brown has opted for the security and longevity offered by the Knights. “Money has never really been a thing for me, it’s the 10 years of security,” Brown stated.
The move is not without its challenges. Brown is expected to transition from his traditional five-eighth role to become Newcastle’s chief playmaker at halfback. This shift has raised questions among NRL legends about his adaptability, with Andrew Johns expressing concerns over Brown’s ability to steer a team from the No.7 position.
Parramatta’s General Manager of Football, Mark O’Neill, acknowledged Brown’s decision, stating, “Dylan has been offered what I understand to be the biggest deal in NRL history from 2026 onwards. Dylan is a class player; we understand his decision to take up the offer and no one could begrudge him for accepting this opportunity for him and his family.”
Brown has assured Eels fans of his commitment for the remainder of the 2025 season, emphasizing his dedication to the team despite the impending move. “To the Blue and Gold family… nothing changes. I’m locked in for this year and we have a job to do,” he shared on social media.
As the Eels prepare for life without one of their key playmakers, the Knights are banking on Brown to elevate their squad to premiership contention. The success of this historic deal will hinge on Brown’s ability to adapt to his new role and lead Newcastle’s attack in the coming seasons.
