Frank Lampard has given his approval as Coventry City continue their January transfer window activity, with the Sky Blues finalising another outgoing move.
Teenage midfielder Kai Andrews has joined Hibernian on loan for the remainder of the season, temporarily leaving Coventry City in search of regular first-team football. The 19-year-old becomes Hibs manager David Gray’s second signing of the January window as the Scottish club looks to strengthen its squad for the second half of the campaign.
Andrews, who is a Wales international, already has experience in Scottish football, having spent the latter part of the 2024–25 season on loan at Motherwell. That spell has clearly played a role in Hibernian’s decision to bring him back north of the border.
Speaking on the move, Hibernian boss David Gray expressed his enthusiasm about adding the young midfielder to his squad. He explained that the club were keen to boost their midfield options with a player who offers both physicality and energy.
Gray said the club believes Andrews will provide valuable depth in the centre of the pitch, highlighting his combative nature and athletic qualities. He also noted that Andrews’ previous time at Motherwell means he already understands the demands of the Scottish Premiership, which should help him settle quickly. Gray added that everyone at the club is looking forward to working closely with the midfielder over the coming months.
Hibernian sporting director Malky Mackay also welcomed the deal, describing Andrews as a player with significant potential and an impressive footballing background. Mackay pointed to Andrews’ prior experience in the league, his development within a top English Championship side, and his involvement at international level with Wales as major positives for the club.
Mackay went on to thank Coventry City staff, including Dean Austin and Frank Lampard, for their cooperation in completing the loan agreement. He concluded by saying the club is excited to see Andrews represent Hibernian in green and white as they approach a crucial final six months of the season.
