“I feel at home here – Carl Rushworth makes claim on future Coventry City, Brighton transfer.

Carl Rushworth has openly expressed his desire to remain at Coventry City beyond his current loan spell, making it clear that he feels a strong connection to the club and could see a long-term future there. The 24-year-old goalkeeper, who is currently on loan from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion, has been a central figure for Coventry this season. Under Frank Lampard, Rushworth has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper and has played a significant role in helping the Sky Blues maintain their competitive position in the Championship table.

As Rushworth enters a more mature phase of his career, his focus is naturally shifting toward long-term stability and identifying where he can best continue his development. Having already gained valuable experience through multiple loan spells across English football, he is now considering where he fits permanently within the broader football landscape.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Halifax-born shot-stopper discussed his long-term ambitions, which include playing regularly in the Premier League and potentially earning recognition at international level with England. Given Coventry City’s strong push for promotion this season, the conversation quickly turned to whether he would consider a permanent move to the club if the opportunity arose.

Rushworth made his feelings clear, responding enthusiastically that he would be fully open to staying at Coventry should the chance present itself. He spoke warmly about the club as a whole, praising how it is run, the people behind the scenes, the coaching staff, and the environment around the team. He suggested that if Coventry were able to achieve promotion to the Premier League, the appeal of remaining with the club would be even stronger, as it would align perfectly with his career goals.

Although his comments suggest that any permanent decision may depend on Coventry’s league status, it is evident that Rushworth has already built a meaningful bond with the club during his loan spell. That connection, combined with his consistent performances, has made him a popular figure among supporters.

Meanwhile, questions are beginning to emerge regarding his long-term future at Brighton. Rushworth’s current contract runs until the summer of 2027, with the option for the club to extend it by a further year. This situation means that discussions are likely to take place soon as Brighton assess whether he fits into their future plans. If the club chooses not to activate the optional extension, this summer could represent their best opportunity to sell him, as his market value would decline once his contract begins to run down.

Brighton are currently well stocked in the goalkeeping department. Their number one, Bart Verbruggen, has firmly established himself in the Premier League and shows little sign of being displaced. Given that Verbruggen is younger than Rushworth, the pathway to becoming Brighton’s first-choice goalkeeper appears increasingly blocked. On top of that, the club also has another promising young keeper, James Beadle, gaining valuable experience on loan at Birmingham City, further complicating Rushworth’s prospects at the Amex Stadium.

All of these factors point toward the likelihood that Rushworth will need to find a permanent home away from Brighton in the near future. Returning to the club only to serve as a backup option would do little to advance his career, especially when first-team opportunities may be scarce and dependent on circumstances beyond his control.

His performances at Coventry have demonstrated that he is more than capable of excelling at the top end of the Championship. Given his steady progression through the loan system and the fact that goalkeepers often peak later in their careers, there is a strong sense that he is approaching the point where he is ready to test himself consistently at the highest level.

While that opportunity may not come at Brighton, it could realistically come with a promoted side—and Coventry City remain strong contenders if they can sustain their form. Considering the rapport Rushworth has developed with the Coventry fanbase and the club’s immediate potential, it is easy to understand why he can envision himself continuing his journey at the CBS Arena on a permanent basis.
