Stoke City’s push for promotion in the Championship has recently lost momentum, with the team struggling to find consistency at a crucial stage of the season. Over their last ten league fixtures, the Potters have managed to secure just three victories, a run of form that has slightly dented confidence among supporters and raised concerns about whether they can sustain a genuine playoff challenge.

Despite these setbacks, all hope is far from lost. Mark Robins’ side remain only two points adrift of the playoff places as the season heads into its decisive final stretch. With such fine margins separating teams in the Championship, a strong run of results could quickly propel Stoke back into contention. Fans are still clinging to the dream of seeing their club return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2017/18 campaign, and smart recruitment could be the key to turning those hopes into reality.

The confirmed arrival of Milan Smit has already offered encouragement. The former Go Ahead Eagles striker has enjoyed a productive season in the Netherlands, scoring ten goals in 28 appearances, and his addition is expected to add greater cutting edge to Stoke’s forward line as matches become increasingly tense and competitive. However, Stoke are not stopping there.

According to reports, the club are leading the race to sign Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a player valued at around £8 million. A report from Football Insider suggests that Stoke are currently ahead of rivals Celtic in the pursuit of the 23-year-old attacker. The proposed deal could initially be a loan move, with the option to make it permanent, potentially allowing Stoke to secure Rak-Sakyi on a full transfer if he impresses.

Rak-Sakyi’s availability has already attracted interest elsewhere, with a recent move to Swansea City falling through, underlining how highly regarded he is. Should Stoke manage to complete the deal, their attacking unit would look far more dangerous, particularly when considering the exciting partnership that could develop between Rak-Sakyi and Sorba Thomas on opposite wings.

Thomas has been one of Stoke’s standout performers this season and has earned widespread praise from his manager, who has described him as a leader within the squad. The former Huddersfield Town winger has delivered goals, assists, and moments of real quality throughout the campaign, including a number of spectacular strikes. His tally of nine goals and seven assists from 29 appearances highlights his influence, while his willingness to fill in at right-back during an injury crisis further demonstrates his commitment and leadership.

Now 27, Thomas has lived up to earlier claims that he could become a “sensational” EFL performer. Operating primarily on the right flank, he would likely relish the chance to play alongside an equally direct and skilful winger on the opposite side. Rak-Sakyi fits that profile perfectly.

The Crystal Palace loanee has also earned glowing praise during his time in the EFL. Scouts and managers alike have highlighted his explosive pace, technical ability, and fearless approach. During a loan spell at Sheffield United, he was credited with injecting energy and momentum into the side during their promotion push, contributing seven goals and two assists in 36 appearances. His performances made him a fan favourite and showcased his ability to influence games at a high level.

Comparatively, Rak-Sakyi’s career statistics suggest he offers more of a goal threat, while Thomas excels as a creative and selfless wide player. With Rak-Sakyi attacking defenders and driving toward goal from one side, and Thomas providing creativity, leadership, and end product from the other, Stoke could possess one of the most dynamic wing pairings in the division.

Such a duo would not only push existing options for places but could also give Stoke a genuine edge over their promotion rivals. If both players perform to their potential, the Potters could overwhelm opponents out wide and generate the attacking momentum needed to climb back into the playoff places.

Ultimately, the combination of Thomas and Rak-Sakyi could prove decisive as Mark Robins’ side look to reignite their promotion challenge and finally return Stoke City to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
