Gunfire broke out outside Mar-a-Lago on Sunday, prompting a swift response from the United States Secret Service that left one suspect dead, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred near the perimeter of the private club owned by former U.S. President Donald Trump. According to preliminary reports from law enforcement officials, Secret Service personnel encountered an individual who was allegedly armed and behaving suspiciously close to the property’s secured zone.
Officials said agents issued verbal commands to the suspect, but the situation quickly escalated. Shots were fired, and the suspect was struck. Emergency medical responders arrived at the scene, but the individual was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
At the time of the incident, it was not immediately clear whether Trump was present at the Palm Beach estate. Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect pending notification of next of kin.
The Secret Service stated that there were no reported injuries to agents or members of the public. The area surrounding Mar-a-Lago was temporarily sealed off as investigators from federal and local agencies began examining the scene. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
