Richard Keys has raised questions about the future of Coventry City manager Frank Lampard following the club’s successful promotion to the Premier League, suggesting that Fulham could be his most likely next destination if he decides to leave this summer.

Coventry City have been celebrating a major achievement after winning the Championship title with an impressive 95 points, finishing 11 points ahead of Ipswich Town in second place. This victory secures their return to the Premier League for the first time since 2001, marking a historic and emotional moment for both the club and its supporters. The promotion celebrations have been widespread across the city, reflecting the significance of the achievement.

However, despite the excitement, there is growing uncertainty surrounding Lampard’s future. The manager currently has just one year remaining on his contract at the Coventry Building Society Arena, and no new agreement or extension has been finalised yet. This situation has naturally led to speculation about whether he will continue in charge beyond the summer.

Part of the concern for Coventry is that even though they are now a Premier League club, several managerial positions in the top flight may become available this summer. These potential vacancies could make Lampard an attractive candidate elsewhere, increasing the risk of him being targeted by other clubs.

According to Richard Keys, writing in his latest blog, he hopes Lampard stays at Coventry but believes his future will depend heavily on the level of financial backing provided by owner Doug King ahead of the Premier League campaign. Keys also suggested that Coventry’s likely strategy would involve signing relatively modestly paid players with the understanding that they could leave if the club is relegated.

Despite this, Keys expressed concern that such an approach might not be sufficient for survival in the Premier League and acknowledged that the squad will need significant strengthening.

Most notably, Keys claimed he has heard that if Lampard does leave Coventry, Fulham appears to be the most likely club he would join, with the manager’s name already being linked to their potential vacancy.

Overall, Lampard’s future appears to hinge on both Coventry’s transfer plans and the outcome of discussions about building a squad capable of competing at Premier League level, with larger clubs reportedly monitoring his progress closely.
