Former Manchester United and Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has opened up honestly about his international future, admitting that a return to the Ivory Coast national team may now be beyond him as attention turns toward the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The Ivorian international, who is currently on loan at Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC from Turkish giants Galatasaray, revealed that age and timing are key factors in his thinking. Having enjoyed a long and demanding career across Europe and now in the United States, Zaha suggested that the physical and mental demands of international football at AFCON level may no longer align with where he is at this stage of his journey.
Zaha has been a prominent figure for Ivory Coast over the years, representing his country at major tournaments and providing moments of brilliance with his trademark pace, skill, and direct attacking style. However, with younger talents emerging and the national team entering a new cycle, the winger appears content to step aside and allow the next generation to take center stage.
Now 32, Zaha’s focus remains on club football, where he is aiming to make a strong impact in MLS after a challenging spell in Turkey. His honesty reflects a player at peace with his legacy—one built on flair, loyalty, and unforgettable performances for club and country.
