Former Leeds United FC striker Patrick Bamford has opened up about the emotional impact of leaving Elland Road, admitting his departure was far more difficult than he expected.
Bamford, who spent several seasons at Leeds and played a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa, became a fan favourite thanks to his goals, work rate, and connection with supporters.
Reflecting on his exit, the 32-year-old expressed deep affection for the club:
“I left my heart at Elland Road. It wasn’t just a club to me—it felt like home. The fans, the atmosphere, the journey—we shared something special.”
During his time at Leeds, Bamford was instrumental in their attacking line, most notably during the 2020–21 Premier League season, where he scored 17 league goals. However, injuries and changes in squad dynamics in later seasons saw his role reduced.
His departure came as part of a broader squad rebuild, with the club looking to refresh its attacking options under manager Daniel Farke.
“You never really feel ready to leave a place like Leeds,” Bamford added. “When you’ve been through so much with a club, it stays with you forever.”
Leeds have since continued their rebuilding process, focusing on younger talents and a new tactical direction. However, Bamford’s exit still marks the end of a significant chapter in the club’s recent history.
For many supporters, he remains a symbol of a memorable era—one defined by promotion, passion, and a strong bond between players and fans.
