BRADFORD, England — Former Bradford City A.F.C. defender Lewis Richards has spoken emotionally following his January departure, admitting he still feels a strong connection to the club and its supporters.
The 24-year-old completed a permanent move to Crawley Town F.C. during the recent transfer window, bringing an end to his spell at Valley Parade.
“I left my heart at Valley Parade,” Richards said after confirming his switch. “This club means a lot to me. From the moment I arrived, the fans and staff made me feel at home. Leaving was not an easy decision.”
Richards joined Bradford City in 2023 and featured primarily as a left-back, though he was also capable of playing further forward. While injuries limited parts of his time at the club, he remained a committed and hardworking presence whenever called upon.
The move to Crawley is understood to have been motivated by the opportunity for more regular first-team football. With competition for places increasing at Bradford, the transfer offered Richards a fresh start and the chance to rebuild momentum in his career.
Bradford City officials thanked the defender for his professionalism and dedication, wishing him well for the future. Supporters have also responded warmly, many expressing appreciation for his honesty and commitment during his time in West Yorkshire.
Richards insists his affection for the Bantams will not fade.
“Bradford will always be special to me,” he added. “No matter where my career takes me, I’ll always be grateful for my time there.”
As the Bantams continue their campaign, attention now turns to strengthening the squad, but Richards’ heartfelt farewell has ensured his connection with Valley Parade remains strong.
