The manager of Portsmouth F.C., John Mousinho, has shared his thoughts on what the recent restructuring of the club’s ownership means for its long-term future. In recent days there has been significant discussion surrounding the redistribution of shares within the club, and Mousinho has provided some clarity about how he believes the development will affect Portsmouth moving forward.
According to Mousinho, the decision by Michael Eisner to transfer a large portion of his shares to his children demonstrates that the family remains firmly committed to Portsmouth for the long haul. The new minority shareholders are Eisner’s children — Breck Eisner, Anders Eisner, and Eric Eisner — and Mousinho believes their involvement reinforces the idea that the family intends to continue supporting and developing the club rather than selling it.
The announcement, which was officially confirmed earlier in the week, revealed that a combined 73.5 percent of the club’s shares has been distributed equally among the three siblings. Despite this redistribution, Michael Eisner still maintains a 26.5 percent ownership stake in the club and retains 100 percent of the voting rights, ensuring that he continues to have ultimate authority over key decisions.
For Mousinho, the news provides reassurance not only for the club’s management but also for its supporters. He believes it brings clarity regarding the direction Portsmouth is heading behind the scenes and helps to dispel rumors that the Eisner family might be preparing to sell the club or seek outside investment.
Speaking about the change, Mousinho described the move as a positive step because it clearly demonstrates the family’s long-term intentions. In his view, it shows that the Eisners remain dedicated to Portsmouth and that the restructuring is part of thoughtful succession planning designed to secure the club’s stability in the future.
The Portsmouth head coach also offered a glimpse into how he interacts with members of the Eisner family. According to him, his relationship is not limited to Michael Eisner alone. Instead, the entire family shows a strong interest in the club and regularly engages with what is happening at Portsmouth.
When members of the Eisner family visit the club, Mousinho explained, it is often a full family presence. Not only do Michael and his sons attend, but other relatives, including Michael’s sister and his wife, Jane Eisner, sometimes visit as well. Their visits typically bring a lively atmosphere because so many members of the family are genuinely interested in the club’s activities and progress.
Mousinho noted that each of the siblings contributes their own viewpoint when they visit. At times, one of them might come to observe things independently — for instance Eric might attend alone, or Michael might visit without the rest of the family. Anders and Breck have also made solo visits in the past. This means Mousinho gets a variety of perspectives from different family members, but he emphasizes that all of them share a genuine commitment to the club.
Among the siblings, Mousinho suggested that Eric may currently be the most actively involved in day-to-day matters related to the club. While he stopped short of saying the others are less interested, he acknowledged that Eric seems to dedicate a significant amount of time and energy to football. Nevertheless, Mousinho stressed that all three brothers possess considerable knowledge and remain highly engaged with Portsmouth’s progress.
Overall, Mousinho’s message was clear: the recent share transfer should not be interpreted as a step toward selling the club. Instead, it signals continuity and long-term planning from the Eisner family, giving both the coaching staff and supporters confidence about the stability and direction of Portsmouth F.C. in the years ahead. ⚽
