Newcastle dealt major Yoane Wissa transfer blow as footage released….
Newcastle United have suffered a significant setback in their pursuit of Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, after the Bees rejected their latest bid and released footage signalling the player’s reintegration into the squad.
The Magpies lodged an improved offer worth £40 million – £35m upfront with a further £5m in add-ons – but Brentford swiftly turned it down, maintaining their valuation of between £50m and £60m for the Congolese striker. Despite Newcastle’s determination to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes, the firm stance from Brentford has cast serious doubt over the move.
Adding to Newcastle’s frustration, Brentford released training footage on their official channels showing Wissa in action and “fully focused” ahead of their upcoming clash with Aston Villa. The clip, which showed him striking a ball during drills, was widely interpreted as a message that the 27-year-old is being reintegrated into first-team preparations, despite his absence from pre-season and the opening matchday squad.
New Brentford boss Keith Andrews reinforced that stance, making it clear he does not want to lose such an influential figure. “Yoane is a top-quality player and very important to us. I understand the speculation, but we won’t be pressured into a sale,” Andrews stated.
For Newcastle, the development is a considerable blow as they continue to search for attacking reinforcements. Wissa had been viewed as a prime target to ease the goalscoring burden on Alexander Isak, but Brentford’s public declaration suggests negotiations will be difficult.
With time ticking down in the window, Eddie Howe’s side may be forced to either raise their bid significantly or turn their attention elsewhere in what is fast becoming a frustrating transfer saga.
