Patrick Mahomes has spent the entire season running for his life, and it’s becoming increasingly embarrassing how the Kansas City Chiefs have failed to protect the most valuable asset in the NFL. Week after week, Mahomes drops back only to be met by immediate pressure, collapsing pockets, and free rushers charging straight at him. This isn’t a one-off bad game or an injury excuse — it’s been a season-long problem.
For a quarterback of Mahomes’ caliber, constant scrambling should be a weapon, not a necessity for survival. Instead of dissecting defenses with time and precision, he’s been forced into hurried throws, off-platform passes, and unnecessary hits. While his creativity often masks the issue, it doesn’t erase it. No quarterback, not even Mahomes, can consistently thrive under that level of neglect.
The offensive line struggles have exposed poor planning and questionable personnel decisions. Whether it’s missed assignments, lack of depth, or schematic failures, the result is the same: Mahomes paying the price. Championship teams protect their quarterback — period.
If the Chiefs are serious about extending their title window, fixing the protection must be the top priority. Mahomes can do the impossible, but he shouldn’t have to do it while running for his life every single Sunday.
