Portsmouth FC head coach John Mousinho has admitted his “frustration” over the uncertain future of one of the club’s highly regarded attacking players, as competition for places intensifies at Fratton Park.
The attacker, who was expected to play a key role this season, has recently found himself on the fringes of the starting XI despite showing flashes of quality earlier in the campaign. With Portsmouth pushing for consistency, Mousinho has been forced into difficult selection decisions.
Speaking after the club’s latest fixture, Mousinho said:
“It’s frustrating because we know the quality he has. He’s a fantastic player and a great professional, but at the moment we have strong competition in those forward areas. It’s about finding the right balance for the team.”
Portsmouth’s attacking options have strengthened in recent months, limiting opportunities for some players to secure regular minutes. Although the forward has impressed in training, he has struggled to translate that form into consistent matchday impact.
Sources close to the club suggest the player remains committed to fighting for his place, though there is growing speculation that his long-term future at Fratton Park could depend on increased game time before the end of the season.
Mousinho emphasised that the door remains open:
“He’s working hard every day, and that’s all you can ask for. Football is about moments, and when his chance comes, I’ve no doubt he’ll take it.”
With crucial fixtures ahead, Portsmouth’s promotion ambitions mean performances will continue to dictate selection. However, the situation underlines the delicate balance between squad depth and player satisfaction.
As the season enters a निर्णcing phase, attention will be on whether the talented attacker can force his way back into contention or seek opportunities elsewher
