Portsmouth FC boss John Mousinho has confirmed that midfielder Ebou Adams will miss the “next couple of games” after suffering a knee injury during the heavy defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
Adams, who recently joined Pompey from Derby County in a £500,000 move, has quickly become a key figure in midfield, making 14 appearances since his arrival. However, the 30-year-old picked up the issue late in the 6-1 loss at Loftus Road, with Mousinho later revealing the problem was linked to a tweak in his MCL.
The injury has ruled Adams out of the upcoming Championship fixtures against Norwich City and Oxford United—a significant setback as Portsmouth battle near the relegation zone with only a handful of matches remaining.
Concerns over his condition were further heightened after Adams withdrew from the Gambia squad for their friendly against Senegal national football team. The national team confirmed his absence and wished him a speedy recovery, underlining the seriousness of the knock.
Mousinho admitted the midfielder’s absence is a major blow, given his influence in the engine room and the balance he brings to the side. “He’s been outstanding since coming in,” the Pompey boss said. “Losing him, even for a short period, is tough—especially at this stage of the season.”
To compound matters, Mousinho also revealed that Andre Dozzell will be unavailable for the trip to Norwich, further limiting options in central midfield ahead of a demanding schedule.
With games coming thick and fast, including a quick turnaround between the Norwich clash and the home meeting with Oxford, Portsmouth will now rely on squad depth to cope without two important midfielders. Mousinho is expected to reshuffle his options as the Blues look to steady their form and secure vital points in their fight for Championship survival.
