With the January transfer window entering its closing stages, significant movement is expected not only in Scotland but across the UK, Europe and beyond. Rangers have already enjoyed a productive winter window, highlighted by the arrival of Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen as the standout signing among several reinforcements.
There could still be departures from Ibrox before the deadline, potentially boosting Danny Rohl’s transfer funds, while the club may also benefit financially from the sale of a former player who left several years ago. Scotland Under-21 striker Rory Wilson progressed through Rangers’ youth system before joining Premier League side Aston Villa, departing prior to making a senior appearance for the Glasgow club.
Now 20, Wilson is yet to feature for Villa’s first team but could be on the move again. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bundesliga outfit TSG Hoffenheim have made an approach regarding a loan deal with an option to buy. Writing on X, Romano stated that the proposed purchase clause would be set at €7 million.
That figure equates to just over £6 million, which Aston Villa would receive should Hoffenheim make the transfer permanent. The development is of particular interest to Rangers, who are entitled to a sell-on percentage from any future transfer involving Wilson. Sky Sports have also reported that the striker is attracting attention from several other clubs, with interest coming from teams in England, Norway and Sweden in addition to Hoffenheim.
