The Millers have suffered four straight League One defeats since the Manchester United loanee was sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained during the 4-0 win at Exeter City on January 31.
The 21-year-old has returned to non-contact training at the club’s Roundwood base, and his manager is eager to have him back to strengthen the side’s battle against relegation.
However, when questioned about a possible comeback in Saturday’s home clash with Plymouth Argyle, Hamshaw remained tight-lipped following Tuesday’s trip to Bradford City, simply saying: “I can’t say at this moment.”
Rotherham were missing seven senior players in West Yorkshire, and midfielders Kian Spence and Dru Yearwood were both forced off before the end of the match.
They are now doubts for the visit of the Pilgrims, with Hamshaw again offering limited detail on their situations.
“Kian was just feeling things tightening up — I’m hopeful it’s nothing serious,” he explained. “It could just be a bit of fatigue. Drew took a knock.
“I wanted to leave them on, but with a busy schedule ahead, we can’t afford to take unnecessary risks.”
Defender Zak Jules and midfielder Shaun McWilliams were absent against Bradford after picking up hamstring and calf problems respectively last weekend, though Hamshaw has not ruled either out of the Plymouth fixture.
“I’m hopeful they’ll be back soon. We’re doing everything we can to get them ready for Saturday.”
Following the Plymouth match, Rotherham return to AESSEAL New York Stadium next Tuesday to face.
