Pressure continues to mount around Nuno Espírito Santo as the West Ham United boss delivered an emotional apology to supporters following a disastrous run that has left the club staring at the frightening possibility of relegation to the EFL Championship.
Speaking in a tense post-match press conference, the Portuguese manager admitted that the situation is far from what the passionate Hammers faithful deserve. Only a few seasons ago, West Ham fans were celebrating European nights in the UEFA Europa Conference League, proudly watching their club compete on the continental stage. Now, the reality is far more painful.
“I understand the anger and disappointment,” Santos said. “This club belongs on bigger stages. The fans remember European football, and now they see the possibility of Championship football. That is not where West Ham should be.”
Supporters have grown increasingly frustrated as performances have dipped and confidence inside the squad appears fragile. Many feel the club has drifted far from the competitive identity that once made the London side a dangerous opponent in both domestic and European competitions.
Despite the criticism, Santos insists he remains committed to turning things around before the season slips beyond repair.
“The supporters deserve better, and it is our responsibility to fight until the last moment,” he added. “West Ham must return to where it belongs.”
For now, however, the gap between past European pride and the looming threat of relegation has never felt wider.
