Following his departure from Rangers in May 2025 — a move officially confirmed by the club as part of a summer clear-out — Leon Balogun has reportedly admitted to feeling regret over leaving Ibrox.
Balogun, who returned for a second spell at Rangers in 2023 and quickly re-established himself as a veteran presence, described the exit as “one of the hardest decisions” of his career. Sources close to the defender say he has struggled to come to terms with life outside the club he considered family, particularly after not having a proper farewell with fans and teammates.
Despite making 30 appearances this past season, including regular starts, Balogun’s contract was not renewed. In his farewell note on social media, he wrote:
“If I had known that the last two games of the season were my last, I would have made sure to say goodbye to you all properly.”
Club insiders suggest the 36-year-old still feels he had more to give — both on the pitch and as a leader in the dressing room. Leaving the club carried a significant emotional weight, especially given the strong bond he built with supporters over his two spells at Rangers.
For many fans, Balogun’s departure marked the end of an era. His return in 2023 had been welcomed as a stabilizing presence in defence, and his contributions, both on and off the field, earned him lasting respect and admiration.
