Coventry City boss Frank Lampard did not hold back in his post-match interview following their shocking 3-2 defeat to Wrexham. The Sky Blues, who had been expected to control the game, found themselves undone by costly defensive lapses that left Lampard visibly frustrated.
“We played some great football going forward, created enough chances to win two games, but our defending simply wasn’t good enough,” Lampard admitted. “You can’t gift goals at this level and expect to come away with a result. It’s disappointing because the effort was there, but the concentration and discipline at the back weren’t.”
Despite twice fighting back into the game, Coventry’s defensive unit struggled to deal with Wrexham’s intensity and set-piece threats. Lampard emphasized that such mistakes cannot continue if the team hopes to climb up the Championship table.
“I take responsibility as the manager,” he added, “but the players need to take ownership too. We’ve got to be more ruthless, more aware, and defend as a team.”
With upcoming fixtures piling up, Lampard will demand a swift response from his players as Coventry aim to tighten their backline and regain their winning rhythm.
